Artist's Statement

I did my piece on the research done by Emily Lanzola. Her research focused on total knee replacement surgery. I drew an internal view of two different knees: one knee in dire need of surgery, the other after surgery. They are exaggerated versions of the problem and solution. I used pen on this drawing to give the impression of an illustration from a medical text book. The "Old Busted Knee" implies the discomfort of a deteriorated knee, pre-surgery. The repaired knee and digital readout demonstrate how much better life can be post-surgery. This project exemplifies the benefits of total knee replacement surgery.
