Artist's Statement

My painting, Don't Be "Afrayed," was inspired by the research of Emily Lanzola, who studied the Recovery in Total Knee Replacement Surgery. Depicted in my art is a pair of legs in action, with tennis shoes and ripped jeans. The limbs, along with the sneakers, are in motion to demonstrate a quick recovery. The streaks of color around the appendages imply movement in the surroundings. The torn denim at the knee is a suggestion of the damage and destruction the knee went through in the past. In addition, there is also a notion of a dissected knee that displays the improved alternative.
