Artist's Statement

I chose to base my project on the study of the release of CA9 in patients affected by Renal Cell Carcinoma. I used a series of dots and lines to represent the protein, and the layers and shades of brown to represent the layers of tissue in the kidney. I used smaller and larger lines to show perspective and movement, along with darker and lighter colors in both the lines and the squares of brown. Through this painting, I was trying to express the movement, through the layers of the kidney tissue, of CA9.
