Artist's Statement

I created a sculpture in response to this topic in order to indicate the reality and importance of procedural sedation. I sculpted the piece realistically so the viewer could relate to the moment. The wires show the pathway of the injected sedative through the bloodstream. Blue hues express the relief and soothing of the sedation, and the contrasting orange/red hues express pain. These colors are broken up to achieve a sense of chaos. And finally, the broken hand illustrates the pain and the trauma of an emergency situation.
