Artist's Statement

I responded to Outcome of Patients with Esophageal Perforation by making an installation emphasizing how difficult an infection in the esophagus can be. The fabric I used represents the esophagus. The fabric towards the entrance represents how fragile that area can become, because it is more transparent. A perforation in the throat can get infected by coming in contact with bacteria. I represent the infection with stiff pieces of colored paper clustered around the entrance. I congest "the infection," making it difficult for the viewer to move, giving the viewer a sense of how frustrating this complication is.
