Artist's Statement

I have chosen to do Mark Silver’s research on normothermia because of its remarkable effects on the human body. Conclusions from the study indicate patients having both reduced pain and a shorter recovery time. In my video, I was in an actual operating room using a "Bair Hugger," the apparatus used to blow hot air into the body during surgeries. As it slides off, my body temperature rapidly cools and you can see my healthy red bllod cellsbegin to ice over and congeal. Death is implicit as the heart rate monitor flatlines, thus personifying the negative and potentially fatal results of lost body heat during surgery.
