Artist's Statement

The mixed media artwork illustrates the two opposing mindsets a patient embodies before and after he/she is diagnosed. The first part of the piece displays a brain scan of the ideology of a patient before diabetes -- gluttonous and lethargic. The second piece of the artwork shows the thoughts of a person who is conscientious of their health -- proactive and fit. Throughout both works, words lurk in the brain, such as the "obese," "fat" fries of the unhealthy view and the "I AM OK" glucose monitor of the healthy view. The overall painting, mindReassemblesIdeology (mRI), conveys a message: a diabetic must reconstruct their outlook on life.
