Artist's Statement

In order to show Brendan Mulcahy's research on high resolution ultrasound more clearly, I created a sculpted representation of carefully analyzed coronary arteries. In a particular image, Brendan shows the "comparison with [intravascular ultrasound] systems, imaging the same area of coronary artery." I replicated this idea using marbled fabric and dried seaweed as the skin interior of the artery. The sculpture depicts a variation in intravascular ultrasound systems and their clarity through the outside analysis of the artery utilizing three different views of the same image becoming more defined and detailed as the images unfold.
