Heart failure is one of the most common diseases affecting our elderly today. Many seek over-the-counter medications for relief, tolerating adverse effects. Here, the heart clings within the pill container dependent for relief, as pills travel through the esophagus. The light at the end of the tunnel symbolizes the promise for restored vitality with appropriate drug selection, versus the light seen before death when the choice goes wrong. Sarah Petras' research challenges us to think about choices we, too, will face with aging. She makes us recognize that scientific research is vital in providing safe and effective alternatives.
