Exercise Tile

eXpressions™ Award: White Ribbon

Lucia Arteaga - I wanted to create a tile that was anatomical, and something that would challenge my skills in ceramics.

April Campbell - I'm the kind of person who doesn't like to be exactly like everyone else. I always want my artwork to be unique and memorable. So when I created this design I wanted it to be different and to be complex enough to show that a lot of hard work was put into it. Finally, after a lot of trial and error, I completed it and I am very proud of how it turned out. I'm just glad that I get to share it with everyone. I hope that this piece passes on the message that it is very important to stay healthy and fit.

Tabitha Collier - Well, I did a tile of a biceps, this is because I think upper body strength is very important. I am a cheerleader, and in cheerleading we apply a lot of upper body strength, therefore it's very significant to me.

Kourtney Lockard - The project that I did was of two hands crossing each other and then a heart and lung. To me, this represents that if we all can come together, we can make a healthier world and have less disease and all be in the best physical shape we can be in.

Alex McCord

Kimberly Petty - I got the idea for my project from school athletics. I play volleyball, basketball, and softball and I thought that I could incorporate that into my work. I had the idea for the skeleton originally when we were asked to do the project.

Dustin Pim - My tile is to show the result if people exercise and lift wieghts to get strong. People will see my tile and want to exercise. Mine is the best and I think I did a really good job.

Justin Michael Ray - My artwork is a clay tile that shows an arm holding up the world. The text says, "It's Possible." To me, it means that no matter what your goals are, in life or exercise, never give up -- you can achieve anything.

Lisa Weaver - I feel fitness is not only crucial in a physical manner; rather, a mental fitness is very important for a healthy lifestyle. My tile was to portray the importance of staying both mentally and physically fit.
