Richard Sharp is Director of Bioethics Research at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Sharp received his training in philosophy and medical ethics at Michigan State University. Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic in 2007, Dr. Sharp taught bioethics at Baylor College of Medicine and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he directed the Program in Environmental Health Policy and Ethics. His research examines the promotion of informed patient decision-making in clinical research, particularly research that involves genetic analyses.

Dr. Sharp has recently been appointed to membership on the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Human Genetics Study Section, Center for Scientific Review at the National Institute of Health.
