The Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases is pleased to announce publication of this book designed to help patients and families better understand the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis
Arthritis affects at least 25 million Americans - and possibly even twice that number. It is the leading cause of disability in the United States.
John D. Clough, M.D., a rheumatologist at Cleveland Clinic, notes that most people who have arthritis suffer from one of the 10 or so most common types. In his new book, Arthritis: A Cleveland Clinic Guide, Dr. Clough explains the major types of arthritis using hypothetial cases rooted in actual patient experiences.
To make the book as useful and easy-to-understand as possible, Dr. Clough meticulously walks readers through every aspect of a case, from a patient's onset of symptoms to the subsequent diagnosis and treatment. He also includes question-and-answer sections as well as information about potential long-term effects and expectations.
"My goal is to help people better understand what the different types of artritis look and feel like when they appear," Dr. Clough says. "The more people know, the more effectively they can communicate with their doctors and play an active role in their own care."
