About AMD-IPAC

Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness worldwide in people over the age of 50. An estimated 12 million Americans suffer from AMD, with 1.2 million seriously impaired.

Two major factors contribute to the devastating effects of AMD currently: patients are often not diagnosed until they begin experiencing significant vision loss and therapies that are available today are directed solely toward the most severe patients.

The AMD Initiative for Prevention and Cure (AMD-iPAC)
AMD-iPAC has been established through a collaborative effort of the state of Ohio, corporate sponsors, investors, and leading academic institutions in order to develop and commercialize new technologies for early diagnosis and treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Efforts will also result in increased investment in the state of Ohio through corporate funding and involvement and the likely creation of jobs in the biotechnology sector.
