A principal goal of Ohio's Third Frontier Project is to develop "clusters of excellence that sustain [Ohio's] global competitive advantage in company and product formation, job creation and economic growth." AFIC is dedicated to ensuring its current programs and new projects contribute to the state's economic development goals, making an impact in each of these important areas. In order to quantify AFICs' impact in these areas, we keep close tabs on a number of economic impact indicators under the grant.

To measure our contribution to local economic growth, AFIC tracks statistics such as corporate sponsorship of research and match contributions to the grant, as well as inventions made under the grant and income resulting from commercializing such inventions. To gauge product development activities, we track the quantity of products developed with our assistance, and products brought to us for testing and validation. Of course, we also track the formation of AFIC- related new ventures and the creation of jobs in Ohio as a result of grant activities. AFIC's principal economic impact metrics are reported below.
