Training in Semen Analysis

Module: 2A
Course: Advanced Andrology Techniques

Duration: 40 hours (5 days)
Fees: USD 5,750.00

Course objectives:

During the course each participant receives one-on-one training to develop knowledge and skills in:

  1. Measurement of sperm DNA fragmentation by Accuri flow cytometer (FACS*; TUNEL assay)
  2. Assessment of Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) in fresh and frozen semen samples
  3. Measurement of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) levels in semen samples
  4. Assessment of Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) in seminal plasma
  5. Evaluation of lipid peroxidation in semen samples
  6. Selection of non-apoptotic spermatozoa by MACS** technique

Course: Advanced Andrology Techniques

Duration: 80 hours (10 days)
Fees: USD 10,500.00

Course objectives:

During the course each participant receives one-on-one training to:

  1. Acquire proficiency in assessment of sperm DNA Fragmentation by TUNEL assay using Accuri bench top flow cytometer (FACS*); validation of the instrument using 6-peak and 8-peak beads); preparing of negative control, positive control and test samples
  2. Develop skills for measurement of Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) in semen samples by MiOXSYS Analyzer; measurement of static ORP (sORP) and capacitance ORP (cORP) in fresh and frozen semen samples and seminal plasma
  3. Acquire proficiency in measurement of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) levels in semen samples; preparing negative control, positive control and test samples
  4. Develop skills needed for assessment of measurement of Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) in seminal plasma
  5. Obtain the knowledge and proficiency for measuring lipid peroxidation in semen samples
  6. Acquire the ability to conduct selection of non-apoptotic spermatozoa by MACS** technique

Evaluation of trainee:

  • Knowledge/Theoretical Component (30%): Multiple choice questions on lab techniques linked to each course module
  • Practical Skills (50%): Tested on specific lab techniques taught during the training
  • Verbal Communication & Comprehension Skills / Integrative Component (20%): PowerPoint talk on a topic linked to a course module and viva voce
  • The performance of the candidate throughout the course will be reflected in a Grading Report
  • Candidates who meet the training requirements and successfully complete the course work will be awarded the Training Certificate
