Center for Reproductive Medicine

Welcome To Our Research Program

Thank you for your interest in the fellowship training program at the Center for Reproductive Medicine.

Our program is designed to train the future leaders in this growing area of research for physicians and scientists who demonstrate a strong desire to excel in and advance the study of human reproduction, infertility and sexual function.

The large number of patients seen annually at The Cleveland Clinic (Please check the CCF Fact Sheet) provides fellows in training with an exciting opportunity to investigate questions critical to these fields. Each member of our staff is strongly committed to providing you with the best possible research training and experience.

Research has always been a fundamental pillar of The Cleveland Clinic and has made possible the many major medical breakthroughs pioneered here throughout the years. All of us at the Reproductive Research Center strive to continue this tradition.

The Cleveland Clinic

The Cleveland Clinic is dedicated to providing patients with excellence in all aspects of their care. One of the world’s first group practices, the Cleveland Clinic was formed in 1921 when four Cleveland physicians came together and set forth their professional standards: Better care of the sick, investigation of their problems, and further education of those who serve. Every year since 1990, The Cleveland Clinic has been designated by U.S. News & World Report as one of only ten hospitals in the United States considered "The Best of the Best".

The second largest medical group practice in the world and the largest hospital in Ohio with over 6.3 million square feet of campus building space, the Cleveland Clinic includes the 12-story state-of-the-art Crile Building (where nearly 73,000 outpatient visits are recorded each month), a 934 staffed-bed hospital (including Children’s Hospital), the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation, the Lerner Research Institute, and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. This integration of clinical and hospital care with research and education in a private, not-for-profit group practice distinguishes the Cleveland Clinic in American medicine. The Cleveland Clinic annually records more than 2.5 million outpatient visits and 50,000 hospital admissions. Among them are patients from all 50 states and 100 foreign countries. More than 1400 full-time physicians and scientists and 800 residents/fellows provide patient care in 120 specialties and subspecialties. There are more than 550 medical students from more than 70 medical schools, who are doing their clinical rotation at The Cleveland Clinic, which is in addition to 305 allied health students. Cleveland Clinic Health System is one of the largest health care provider in Ohio and includes 11 hospitals in Cleveland area as well as one full fledged hospital Cleveland Clinic Florida. The Lerner Research Institute oversees more than 1,500 clinical and basic research activities conducted by more than 800 research scientists, fellows and students in more than 127 laboratories. Our Research Institute is the fifth largest in the country receiving over $150 million from Federal agencies, non-Federal societies, and endowment funds. More than two-thirds of that amount is received from external grants and contracts, a dramatic endorsement by others of the quality of Cleveland Clinic research.

Center for Reproductive Medicine

At the Center for Reproductive Medicine, the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute’s Andrology and Oncology section and the Obstetrics-Gynecology and Women's Health Institute's Reproductive Endocrinology section have teamed together to build a strong academic center for research in male and female reproductive health, infertility and sexual function. The Center was established in 1993. Currently, more than 15 basic and clinical research projects are under way to examine various issues in the pathophysiology of male and female infertility, reproduction, and erectile dysfunction.

Our research fellowship and training opportunities in human reproduction, infertility and sexual function represent one of the largest and most comprehensive academic programs of it's kind in the United States. Since January 2008, more than 40 scientific articles were published in peer reviewed journals and over 40 presentations made at important national and international scientific meetings. To date, our program has trained more than 150 physicians and scientists from the United States and all over the world, including Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Haiti, India, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom. Majority of our alumni are holding academic positions in prestigious institutions, while others are pursuing residencies in American hospitals in fields of their choice. In addition, over 55 pre-med and medical students have conducted research internship in our center. The center also hosts high school students for research experience.
