Karen Shanahan Senior Counsel

Karen Shanahan serves as Senior Counsel in the Office of General Counsel at Cleveland Clinic where she is involved in a wide variety of corporate, securities, and transactional work. Immediately prior to joining the Clinic, Mrs. Shanahan served as Executive Vice President for a downstream petroleum industry start up company. Previous to that she was associated for many years with the downstream operations of the British Petroleum Company (now BP Amoco) where she served as Senior Counsel and Corporate Secretary as well as Vice President Logistics; President of BP Pipelines; and Vice President Human Resources. She serves as a trustee of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. Mrs. Shanahan received a B.A. degree in Asian studies from Manhattanville College and a Masters Degree in international relations from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. She holds a law degree, where she was an editor of the Law Review from Georgetown University.
