Dale Shepard, MD, PhD
Dale R. Shepard, M.D., Ph.D. is a staff physician in the department of solid tumor oncology at the Taussig Cancer Institute and in the Center for Geriatric Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He is Co-Director of the Taussig Oncology Program for Seniors (TOPS) and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He obtained a PhD in pharmacology at The Ohio State University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical pharmacology at University of Chicago before returning to Ohio State for his medical degree. Dr. Shepard completed his internal medicine residency and a hematology/oncology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Shepard’s clinical practice focuses on genitourinary and gastrointestinal malignancies. His clinical research interests include new drug development and developing clinical trials for special populations, specifically elderly patients with solid tumors. He has been the principal investigator for many Phase I trials as well as two recent investigator-initiated clinical trials for elderly patients. Dr. Shepard is responsible for overseeing the phase I trials program for the Solid Tumor Oncology department.
Dr. Shepard has authored or coauthored nearly 30 research articles and book chapters, has been a peer reviewer for several oncology journals, and has been cited in numerous trade and consumer publications on diverse oncology topics.
