Gary Pruden is the Worldwide Chairman of Johnson & Johnson’s Global Surgery Group (MD&D), a role he assumed in January 2012.
Prior to this role, Gary was the Company Group Chairman and Worldwide Franchise Chairman for ETHICON and a member of the Medical Device and Diagnostics Group Operating Committee, a role he assumed in January 2009.
Gary joined Johnson & Johnson in 1985 with Janssen Pharmaceutica in New Jersey and held a number of senior positions in sales, marketing, and strategic account management. In 2001, he was named Vice President of Marketing for the Primary Care Franchise and was responsible for establishing significant growth for the GI, Pain, and Mycology businesses. He then assumed the role of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the CNS Franchise in 2003, helping to successfully launch new brands and establish significant new growth. Early in his career, Gary also worked as a sales representative for Baxter Edwards in their Critical Care division.
In April 2004, Gary was appointed President of Janssen-Ortho Inc., a brand-name pharmaceutical company headquartered in Toronto, Canada. He also functioned as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. In his position, Gary oversaw all operations in Canada. He successfully led the team through several lifecycle and patent expiries, while at the same time enabling Janssen-Ortho to become the fastest growing large pharmaceutical company in Canada in 2004.
In November 2004, Gary was appointed to the Board of Directors of Canada’s Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies, the industry association for ethical manufacturers of brand-name, prescription medicines in Canada. In January 2006, Gary was appointed Worldwide President of Ethicon Products and also served as a member of the Ethicon Global Management Board.
Born in Washington Township, New Jersey, Gary has a BS in commerce from Rider University. Gary is married with two children and resides in Pennsylvania.
