Sandra MacRury, MD
Prof MacRury was appointed as a consultant diabetologist and endocrinologist at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness in 1994 having graduated and trained in clinical medicine in Glasgow. In 2006 she was appointed Professor of Clinical Diabetes at the University of the Highlands and Islands and now involves working in diabetes research in the Division of Health Research, UHI in addition to clinical duties in Inverness and peripheral hospital sites. Research interests include scientific ‘bench to bedside’ academic studies related to diabetes and cardiovascular complications and oxidative stress; remote management of diabetes and service delivery; digital health care and clinical informatics.
She is also the director of the Highland Clinical Research Facility, the fifth CRF in Scotland. The CRF hosts and oversees a large variety of academic and commercial studies from all medical specialty areas and forms a test bed for the primary care informatics project and digital diabetes programme.
Aside from research, diabetes education, both professional and patient centred, is a long standing interest and she has chaired the Scottish Diabetes Education Advisory Group for the last 6 years.
