Chief Scientific Officer and Founder
Histogenics

Laurence Berlowitz Tarrant received a PhD in genetics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1965 and was an NSF Fellow at the MRC Epigenetics Research Group, Edinburgh, studying with C.H. Waddington and Max Birnstiel. He had an internationally recognized academic career, culminating in a Professorship at New York University, and commenced his career in industry in 1984 at the interface of cell biology and the surface chemistry of materials at the Norton Company. His work was among the earliest identifying materials bioactivity as a key to successful tissue regeneration. He founded ITMA Ltd, which rapidly transferred academic technologies to important commercial product development and made major contributions to dental, bone, and cartilage product development.
