Finding Balance through Innovation

Clyde Pratt is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kinamed Inc., a privately held California based manufacturer of orthopedic and neurosurgery implants and instruments. In addition, he is the Managing Partner of Nanovation Partners, LLC, a development stage entity engaged in the commercialization of nano-technology licensed from the University of California, San Diego.

His career spans almost 40 years in the medical device industry. Initially, he worked at Richards Medical, now Smith and Nephew, where he was responsible for the manufacture of reconstructive products. In 1982, he founded Techmedica Inc., a venture backed company that specialized in the design and manufacture of custom implants using CT data sets and Computer Integrated Manufacturing. In 1987, Techmedica was purchased by Winterthur based Sulzer Brothers. In 1993, Mr. Pratt and associates bought Kinamed Inc. from Kyoto based Kyocera Corporation. Initially a total hip company, it has developed a portfolio of unique and proprietary niche products that are now sold in 30 countries.

Mr. Pratt holds a BA degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a JD from Loyola University School of Law. He is a named inventor in 33 issued and pending U.S. patents dating from 1982 to the present.
