Omar Ishrak, PhD Omar Ishrak assumed the role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic on June 13, 2011. Omar joined GE Healthcare in 1995 as General Manager, Ultrasound. Under his leadership, the Ultrasound division delivered a continuous stream of innovation, expanded into new clinical applications and dramatically broadened global distribution to achieve an annual double-digit growth rate since 1995. Omar’s technology leadership and business acumen were instrumental in making GE the world’s leading provider of Ultrasound systems and services. Omar was named an Officer of the General Electric Company in 1999, and in January 2005 was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Clinical Systems, a diverse portfolio of point-of-care medical devices. In a 4-year period under Omar’s leadership the Clinical Systems business achieved in excess of 40% revenue growth and Operating Margin grew by 110%. Omar was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Healthcare Systems in January 2009 and was promoted to Senior Vice President of GE in July 2010. Omar joined GE with more than 13 years of technology development and business management experience, holding leadership positions including Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Product Development, Diasonics/Vingmed, and various product development and engineering positions at Philips Ultrasound. He earned a BS and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of London, King's College. Omar is a member of the board at The Blood Center of Wisconsin and also on the Health Leadership Council of the Save the Children Foundation. |
