Sam's main focus is development, finance and growth of new spin-offs. Prior to joining CCI, he was responsible for Clinic Care, an arm of the Cleveland Clinic, which provides multifunctional support for the Clinic and subsidiaries. Sam has extensive experience in business development and has been involved in the organization and start-up of a number of companies. He serves on the board of directors for Tolera Therapeutics, Clear Catheter Solutions, Navis Medical, Cleveland Heart, and the New Generation Technology and Foundation for Humanitarian Aid. Prior to the Cleveland Clinic, Sam started and led a highly successful business enterprise and held executive financial positions with several organizations. He holds a BS in Accounting, MBA and PhD in Economics from Moscow State University.
Jackie specializes in the governance of Innovations Portfolio Companies to ensure that they are operating in a fashion that optimizes the potential clinical and financial return to Cleveland Clinic and minimizes risk to the Clinic. Previously, she was Vice President in the Healthcare Investment Banking Group of National City/PNC where she provided financial advisory services, focusing on health care organizations. Jackie's experience includes mergers & acquisitions and strategic planning. She has a BBA in Accounting and Finance from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is a CPA.
Bill's role is a liaison between the Clinic and corporate partners, managing the development of new medical devices. A mechanical engineer, he spent eleven years as a consultant developing medical device prototypes for early-stage startups in both the San Francisco Bay Area and northeast Ohio. He's listed on five patents. Bill sits on the Partnership for Innovation (PFI) oversight board at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to working in the medical device industry, Bill worked five years at Honda R&D in Marysville, Ohio. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.
Jeff specializes in technology selection in the context of creation, development and growth of new ventures. Leveraging extensive transactional experience in the capital markets, Jeff also focuses on capitalization and financing strategies for CCI spin-offs. Prior to joining CCI he spent time with a number of boutique investment banks helping pre-commercial stage public and private life science and healthcare companies secure investment capital. He holds a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Marquette University and a PhD in Biochemical Pharmacology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Joseph Rich, JD | Senior Innovations Officer & Deputy Director
Joe's primary responsibilities include the development and growth of Cleveland Clinic new ventures. He manages projects that are potential spin-off companies and assists existing spin-offs with fundraising, marketing, growth and development. He serves on the board of directors for FlexLife Health. In addition, Joe assists with managing Cleveland Clinic conflict of interest issues. Previously, he was corporate counsel and new ventures manager for the University of Akron Research Foundation and was instrumental in numerous corporate ventures and international deals. A proud northeast Ohio native, Joe holds a B.S. in Biology from John Carroll University and degrees in Law (J.D.) and Finance (M.B.A.) from The University of Akron, where the Ohio governor appointed him to serve on the university's Board of Trustees.
Mark Stovsky, MD | Science and Technology Innovation Officer
Dr. Stovsky serves as Science and Technology Innovation Officer at Cleveland Clinic Innovations. In addition to his work at Innovations, Dr. Stovsky, a board certified urologist, is an Associate Professor of Surgery and a Staff Urologist in the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute where he specializes in the managment of benign and malignant prostate disease, minimally invasive surgery for BPH, advanced endourology for urinary stone disease, men's health, medical economics and bioinformatics. His research interests include cancer biomarkers, urinary stone disease, BPH and medical economics/health policy.
Prior to joining CCF and CCF Innovations, Dr. Stovsky was an attending urologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center where he served as Director of the Men's Health and Genitourinary Stone Center and Urology Institute Quality Officer as well as Chief of the Division of Urology and Medical Director for Urology Services at UH Richmond Medical Center.
Dr. Stovsky has an extensive business background in both private equity and life science consulting as well as new venture development. Dr. Stovsky currently serves on the boards of the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the American Urological Association (AUA) North Central Section and the Ohio Urological Society. He is Past President of the Cleveland Urological Society and the Ohio Urological Society as well as a past board member of the Acedemy of Medicine of Cleveland/Northern Ohio Medical Association. Dr. Stovsky was recently selected to the AUA Leadership Program (2012/2013 class). He has also been honored with selection to Best Doctors in America (2010 - 2013). He also serves on the boards of American Friends of Magen David Adom (Israel Red Cross) and Park Synagogue.
Dr. Stovsky earned undergraduate and medical degrees from Northwestern. He also holds an MBA (strategic planning) from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. Dr. Stovsky completed his urology residency training at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Stovsky is married to Shannon and they have 3 children, Adam, Jennifer and Jacob.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, David established his own medical device company, secured $3 million venture funding to develop innovative orthopedic implants, and led the company to complete new product development. He was also a licensing manager at the University of Rochester Medical School, and a drug discover scientist at Pharmacia & Upjohn. He received his medical degree from Xiangya Medical School in Changsha, Hunan, China and MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, Ann Arbor, MI.
